  • Boulder B-cycle introduces new passes and rider benefits following record-breaking 2015 season

by Kevin Bell | Jan 12,2016

Boulder, CO—Having nearly doubled the usage of its bikes over the 2014 season, Boulder B-cycle, Boulder’s nonprofit bike share program, is set to introduce new ways for locals and visitors to use its system in 2016.  Starting January 1st, Boulder B-cycle will make two new pass types available and add additional benefits for existing annual members.

Based on rider feedback from a recent survey and focus groups, Boulder B-cycle will introduce the People’s Pedaler, an $11 auto-renewing monthly pass that includes an unlimited number of 30 minute trips, and the Casual Cruiser, a free pass allowing riders to pay only for what they use—$3 per half hour per trip. Both passes will allow riders fast access to bikes using an RFID card.

Additionally, Boulder B-cycle is increasing the free trip period allotted to annual passes, now known as Republic Riders, from 30 to 60 minutes. The $8 24-hour pass, available at any Boulder B-cycle kiosk, will remain unchanged apart from a new name—The Day Tripper.

From James Waddell, Executive Director of Boulder B-cycle: “We’ve always believed that getting from A to B should be both easy and fun. We’re always looking for ways to make bike sharing more accessible for everyone in Boulder—locals and visitors alike. We’re very excited to introduce these new pass options in order to meet the needs of even larger segment of the Boulder population. We strongly believe that by providing more ways to use B-cycles, even more people will be encouraged to try bike sharing and realize that it’s okay to have fun on their way to work, school, errands or meals.”

Boulder B-cycle is on track to see nearly 85,000 trips in 2015, up from just over 43,000 in 2014. The program will continue to expand in 2016, with new stations at the Boulder Junction transit center and 28th & Mapleton scheduled for installation in January.
